Extractor Fan Fires.

It is important to regularly clean extractor fans. They can be a fire risk. A build up of lint and other combustible detritus can cause fires in fans in bathrooms, laundry rooms or shower rooms etc. Grease and oil build up in kitchen extractor hoods and fans can also cause fire with devastating results.

    " I seem to recall that one of the well known makers instructs monthly cleaning of their fans and that cleaning should be carried out by a qualified electrician! Not very often homeowners carry out fan maintenance? "


    This appears to be lip service to the various H&S policies kicking around. I think before hiring an endless que of electricians to maintain faulty appliances it might make sense to educate the general public in maintenance and repair of some of the more simplest of white goods, then offer extensive traing courses on how to periodically check and reset a RCD...and then dump this prevailing litigatory attitudes that appears to prevade domestic electrical works. Of course there are warrenties to cover new appliances.........
