SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND?

Sorry Zoom if I am treading on your toes.

What are we going to do this weekend?

Not so. Rumour control says the pointed heads at JPEL changed the interval from 3 months to 6 to coincide with the twice yearly clock changes as popping the test button on the RCD will make it necessary anyway to reset the clocks.

Clearly Joe and Josephine Public are still totally unaware about the need to periodically test their RCDs.
  • It makes a lot of sense.

The Beeb usually reminds people to change their clocks. Perhaps they should remind people about their RCDs too?

Any road, many thanks for the reminder. All my RCBOs (in the garage) are just fine.

Solution for the problem of a ship stuck in the Suez Canal.  Brought to you by AncientMariner.

One option is to dump more sand etc into the canal behind the ship. Since there is a only a finite amount of water on the earths surface, this will cause the world's oceans including the Suez Canal, to rise; and the ship will float free.

If three hundred ships are tied together then surely they can pull one off a sandbank?

  • This where tugs come in. They don't look that big, but see one out of the water and they are deep draughted.  However, what you really need is a "salvage tug". These have a much greater pull.  Don't forget though that you also need a strong rope and a place to attach it too.

Think of a large farm tractor towing a car out of a ditch on a country lane. In the old days, attaching the rope to the bumper was not the best idea...

  • One of my life's most boring experiences was transiting the Suez Canal, although interestingly, where there was a mosque, there was often also a church.

One of the current problems is that there is no room for big tugs to get in and push, they can only pull. The ones which we have seen look like harbour tugs.

Quite how it happened remains to be seen.
  • I have flown over the Suez Canal it is pretty impressive.

My wife managed to find a sandbank in the Worcester to Birmingham Canal whilst steering a narrowboat, which is no mean feat, a big stick with a hook on the end resolved that problem.
  • "Clearly Joe and Josephine Public are still totally unaware about the need to periodically test their RCDs." and a shed load of Electricians too John.

Where on Earth did those public information films of yore go to?

We should have known this thread was a JP wearing his tutor head type of question
  • The ship is floating free, nature helped with a full moon.

The lockdowns we've had so far have each just about kept patient rates below the absolute maximum capacity of the NHS.

Meanwhile all the other health conditions have had to join the queue, with consequent effects upon patients health.
