The Methuselah of Electrical Apparatus.

Mornin' All, there is a very strong easterly wind coming off the sea today. It could be a gale force 8 or 9. I fear some wind turbine damage may occur in the offshore wind farms or my flat's roof may blow off.

Anyway, I remembered that some years ago an article about the longest surviving working Sangamo time switch was published. Readers wrote in and gave details. Some of the Sangamo timers ran for many decades.

Sangamo History – Sangamo Clocks

As a Sunday diversion, I would be interested to find the oldest, working examples of electrical equipment or installations still in use.

The winner will receive the Zoom Virtual Admiration Prize for Effort, and a pint of best if ever we meet someday.

Bye,

Z.

More like it is Mary Tavy Hydro Station, with some fabulous 1930's generators still very much in use, we've had some cracking IET LN visits there:

I think they replaced the actual turbines from Mary Tavy some years ago as I remember seeing them in a yard near Tavistock.

For old equipment, when ICI Nobels closed their operation in northwest Wales in 1993 they were still using 1920s lead lined wooden bowl mixers (with 1920s motors!) to mix nitroglycerine.
