Are Farm Electric Fences Reliable?

Do they reliably keep livestock enclosed?

  • Yes they are reliable but many animals are quite intelligent and can sense if they are on.

Horses can and will jump them so two separate fences a few feet apart are best. If they are wearing rugs they can often just push through.

Pigs will often just run through them especially when young.

Sheep are well insulated if dry and are usually looking for more innovative ways of dying.

If vegetation touches the wire it can weaken the current so animals ignore it.

And the odd one is really clever and works out a solution.
