HEAT-PUMPS is Air or Water the cheapest to install and run?

We have a village swimming pool which requires 50 kW of heat to keep it at 27 deg.C.   The gas boilers are getting old and will need replacing soon.  So should we go with gas as cheapest option or try and cost out the heat pump as a more environmentally friendly option.      CliveS
  • You may have to pick which of cheap or eco-friendly is more important.   I suspect replacing the gas boilers with new ones is going to be by far the cheapest option to install, and probably to run as well.  Gas is still very cheap compared with electricity, so even with the high efficiency of heat pumps, it's hard to beat a gas boiler on pence per kilowatt-hour delivered.
