  • Thanks Clive. I did go to what I thought was a good optometrist but they said they had spoken to their suppliers and they could not put the close up bit at the top. As I am doing less fiddly stuff I think I will persevere with the ordinary bifocals. I am try for better quality reading glasses or follow the example of the guy on the repair shop and put a second pair on top of the first.

The other problem is having large hands the increasingly small and cramped connectors in ever small enclosures are nearly impossible to get a bit of solid 1.5 into and I really dislike 1.0. I wish they world miniaturise the cable as well ? Of course the connectors will not take flex. I use the Wiha Ionomic? long nose pliers which I find essential and they help my RSI in my wrist. We won't mention the arthritis in my thumbs and problems with hips and knees.

But less paid work keeps my wife happy as it means more time for laying 3X2 slabs, fencing, landscaping, painting etc ?
