How well do you know the IET Family Tree?

As we approach our 150th anniversary week, it's time for a little competition! ?

Which one of the Institutions listed above is not a member of the IET's Family Tree?

Submit your answer by this Friday lunchtime (12.30pm on 14th May), when we'll pick a winning name at random from those with the correct answer. The winner will be sent some IET goodies from my stash! ?

(Psst! You'll need to be logged in to choose your answer!) ?

If you'd like to know more about some of the activities we're doing to celebrate our 150th anniversary take a look at our IET@150 website and don't forget to nominate your #DifferenceMakers and watch the IET 150 show every day next week!

  • Thank you to everyone who submitted an answer for our question on how well you know the IET Family Tree.

    And the right answer is......

    ???.....

The Institution of Lighting Professionals (ILP)! ?

Well done to Mr Fixit‍ whose name was drawn out of a hat this afternoon by one of my colleagues in our temporary offices in Stevenage. I'll be in touch with you shortly for your address details!

For your interest, the IMechIE merged with the Institution of Electronics and Electrical Incorporated Engineers (IEEIE) and the Institute of Engineers and Technicians (IET ) in 1998 to become the IIE. In 2005 the IIE absorbed the Society of Engineers (SoE) in 2005 who had in 1857 changed their name from the Putney Club (PC) to the SoE ?. I see that no one was fooled by the Institution of Electronic and Radio Engineers (IERE) who merged with the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) back in 1988... ?

You can view the entire IET Family tree and read more about the history of the IET on our website

    Congratulations once again Mr Fixit!
