Current in HVDC power transmission

Does anybody know the current over electric cable in HVDC is relative constant current or other uncertain wave(like the wave after single phase bridge rectifying)? Is there any enforcing standard or industrial standard? Thanks~
I believe even in the days of DC generators at 220V there was a bit of ripple in the DC current, so it is unlikely to be perfectly constant. However it is not as bad as a single phase bridge rectifier. As far as standards are concerned, there are a number of relevant standards, technical specifications and technical reports published by IEC, particularly by TC 115 (High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission for DC voltages above 100 kV).
