Funny old week really , the chair of one Hydrogen committee has resigned citing , the governments proposals on Blue Hydrogen , were “incompatible with ambitions for green thinking”

Reading through the article a little more , it seems as though the Government proposal was to use CH4 in steam reformers to make Hydrogen , and capture and store the CO2 produced.

Ok I admit i havent been happy with Hydrogen as a transport fuel for some time and as for the 20% by vol mix for the gas supply , mmm well do the maths , at 3 times less the energy density of  CH4 , for mains pressure you would need more pumping energy and at 13kg of CO2 per 1 KG of Hydrogen , CCS stores would get full rather quick , and of course you need high amounts of pumping energy to get the store CCS pressures , and even then you have no guarantees the stores remain stable or leek proof , so sort of brave guy i Guess for resigning, but to be honest these sort of figures should have been known , before the government started spending any money on Hydrogen .

Now Greta Thunberg has more or less called government out on er lack of real green energy thinking , I dont know maybe lying is a strong word , but the government used to be very good at discussing energy transition figures , now though all sorts of things get funding , without any backing data , or even a useful green tool box for engineering comparisons.

My favourite over the last decade of gross green washing is “ it will take the equivalent of 2000 cars off the road”    , mmmm well more astute engineers will have noted actually taking 2000 cars off the road is a very different figure , same goes for barrel of oil equivalents.

So assuming the government read IET blogposts and is resident intelligence 

Lets have an energy of mining/making a car battery figure

Lets have an efficiency of fuel KJ into KW electrical figure

Lets have a KG of dry solids into Bio gas and bio methane and a Bio CO2 figure

Lets have the copper and iron losses of the current grid specification figure

Lets see how much 2nd and 3rd use we can get out of recycled materials figure

lets build houses mostly of timber frame construction and let them be fully electric from now on . (actual carbon store … true CCS ) figure

I dont know I dont have all the solutions , but seems to me some really simple and can get on with  now are staring the Government in the face.

    Don't ask the difficult questions, green dogma can't cope with them. Unfortunately man made climate change and reality are two different things. All the green demands will produce a huge spike in CO2 emissions to  implement. If CO2 rather than global control was important a much slower, bootstrap, solution would be sensible.

    As it stands, July 2021 being the hottest evvaahhh is a complete lie in an attempt to give some justification to COP26. How come the hottest evvaaahh is always in the northern hemisphere??? When it is summer up here it is winter down there. Where is the balance??

    I cant help it Roger , even if people do have trouble with Global heating theory , i have not met one climate denier who doesn't want pollution improved . Yes you are right climate anomalies do occur simultaneously in northern and southern hemispheres , although the larger northern hemisphere land mass gives more land drag for the wind/air movements .

    The other aspect is if you get 3 in a row , 3 summers of a 20% reduction in arable , in the uk we are self sufficient to 50% , not enough grain to feed live stock , and your food chain starts to unravel and if you dont plan your seed stock also .
