Drunken Users.

In the building that I am working in, the owner said that we need to make provision for drunken users. It is a mezzanine floor in a boat house with its own cinema screen and projector. Party people may use it.

What provisions would you make?

  • If it was me, I'd start with not much more than you would in a house with kids or a village hall, avoid things with a big bulging box protruding into in the room if it can be made flush or if not then protected from collision by location away from an obvious thoroughfare. Minimise electrics below drink spill level unless under a shelf, and think how things may be wiped over if it happens. Limit acccess to controls that might cause a panic if leant on  e.g. all Light switches but one  behind the bar. anything that needs concentration, such as room thermostat controls or the projector screen controls, not where someone might lean on it or fiddle idly. If there are glass break fire alarm call points, choose the sort with a flap to lift. Automate only things that can be easily over-ridden (so for example the screen can be sent back up and turned off if it is that sort) and projector can be turned off with a real switch even if the remote goes walkabout. Maybe caging around projector, speakers etc, if wild exuberance is expected.
