*** Keynote Speaker Opportunity ***

A member of the SWAN team at Queen’s University Belfast is planning a Research Society Event for International Women’s Day Event in 2015 and wondered if any of our IET members would be interested in acting as a keynote speaker.

Their objective for this particular event is to - Promote the breadth of opportunities for women in research at EEECS. Apart from being an interesting field in which to work, there are distinct benefits in terms of working in a flexible, family-friendly environment. They will invite undergraduates through to academics and hope to encourage attendees at all levels to consider progression in EEECS i.e. from UG->PG, PG->RA/RF, and RF->Lecturer.

They have provisionally booked a venue for Wednesday, 4th March 2015 and have drafted this rough agenda:

10am – Registration and Coffee

10.30am – Speaker 1

11am – Speaker 2

11.30am – Roundtable Discussion & Feedback

12.00pm – Speaker 3

12.30pm – Lunch

1.30pm – Finish

Their aim is to have 3 speakers (not in any particular order):

1 – Close link to Academia and Engineering/Computer Science

2 – Motivational Speaker

3 – Male perspective (we need to think more about how this fits with the objective above but the premise is to include men in the event. As a predominantly male environment, the culture is heavily influenced by male perspectives.)

Based on this rough outline, please let me know if this is something that you would be interested in by e-mailing womensnetwork@theiet.org

Kind regards,

Jo
