Are you professionally registered?

If so, what difference has this made to your career?

Has it opened any doors for you or, do you feel that you could have had the same success, without professional registration?

  • yes, I am CEng and have been for over ten years.  it has had a mixed effect for me.  Early in my career it was useful, especially when working abroad, or with non-Britich engineers as they often recognised the implications of the accreditation even though I was often considered too young (and femal) to be a "qualified enginer" by other standard (especially in EU).

Later on it has been more limited as my work experience and career development speak for themselves.

I do believe that we should all work to develop the image of professionally registered engineers, and work with the IET to promote this (IPRA and mentor), because only by developing the "idea" of professionally registered engineers will it become more visible to emplyoers and the general public.
