On 4 March the Institution of Engineering Technology (IET) and Prospect – the union for professionals in science, technology, engineering and maths – will be co-hosting a conference at the Royal Academy of Engineering to address how corporate selection practices affect women’s progress in STEM careers.

The objectives of the conference are to enhance understanding of recruitment and promotion practices that affect women’s progression and to inform guidance to enable organisations to design and implement effective practices. It will address the following questions:

  • What do recruitment and promotion practices look like for STEM roles? Have they changed much in the last five years? Who controls them and who monitors the outcomes?

  • What difference does it make? Do more diverse organisations perform better and are they seen as better places to work?

  • What are the priorities for change? What action is needed and by whom?

Confirmed speakers include Naomi Climer (President Sony Media Cloud Services), Anne Jenkins (Head of Diversity, BAE Systems), Peter Cheese (Chief Executive, CIPD), Baroness Margaret Prosser and Helen Wollaston (Director of WISE).

The conference will comprise an invited audience from industry, HR practitioners professional bodies, unions and other stakeholders.

There is no charge to attend, but places are limited and so early application on the attached form is advised. All applications should be sent to
