I have been part of the committee since Sep 2012 with membership to the IET since June 2011 as part of my professional recognition with Network Rail and working towards CEng status.
From an early presentation (Nanotechnology 13/12/11) there was a lack of equipment available as I arrived at the venue after work with my laptop. As Ray (Swindon LN Chairman) noticed my laptop in use he kindly asked if I was able to help out with the evening’s event. I duly obliged with a chat on becoming a member of the committee. With other commitments not allowing me time to commit back then, it did trigger me to think about giving something back into a community that runs its success on the volunteer’s commitments. I spoke to Ray on the last AGM meeting and have since moved into the Events Managers role.
My background within the Armed Forces with active membership in committees, organising functions, events and ensuring the background work is completed to allow the programmes to run smoothly. A background that will hopefully allow me organise the 2013 – 2014 events calendar with as much variation of past years thanks to the hard work done by previous members.
For all that join the Swindon Community Network I hope you enjoy the growth of the site and I second Walters’s comments that we as a committee welcome all comments and suggestions.
Further to that if anyone is reading this and are aware of a speaker or an event that will be of interest to the Swindon network then please get in touch.
I look forward to seeing you at one of our events soon.
