    Hi everyone!

I'm Elena and I am an engineering student with The Open University. I also work full time as an Admin Assistant for a small landscaping company.

It's so inspiring reading about what other women do and I would love to be able to be part of the engineering world. I love in Kent and I would be interested to connect and meet up with members in this area. :)

    Hello

I'm a lecturer in Human Resources Management at UWE Bristol and my research interests revolve around the experiences of women in male dominated sectors (esp. engineering). I'm currently doing a small qualitative stud on how female engineers develop, enter, maintain, engage with, alter and leave formal internal and external networks and the extent to which these networks contribute to the construction, maintenance and alteration of career identities.

If you are active in women's network (either internally or externally organized) I would love to hear about your experiences and thoughts.
If you agree to participate, you will be invited for a one-to-one interview with me.The interviews will be conducted during January and April, 2019. The interview questions will be around: (i) your career history (background information); (ii) the range and nature of networks you are currently participating in and (iii) if, and if yes how, your participation in women-only networks has impacted on the way you see yourself as an engineer (i.e. your career identity).

The interview will last approximately one hour and will be conducted in a place suitable to you, i.e. your workplace, at the University, with Dr Vanda Papafilippou. We can also conduct the interview by telephone/Skype, if you are based outside of the Bristol and surrounding area. Once you confirm that you are happy to take part in the interview, I will contact you, by email, to arrange a convenient date and time.

With your permission, I would like to audio record the interview, which will be transcribed afterwards by a person employed by the University, who has signed a confidentiality agreement. No names will be used either in the audio recording or the transcription. The audio record and transcription will be stored on a password-protected computer and only I will have access to it.

The findings from this research will be used to analyse the extent to which women-only formal networks (internal and external) empower women engineers and shape their career identities. Neither you, nor your organisation, will be mentioned by name or be identifiable in papers that are published about this research. It is your right to withdraw from the study at any point without having to state a reason, by e-mailing Dr Vanda Papafilippou (see below).
The project has been reviewed and approved by the Faculty of Business and Law Research Ethics Committee. If you have any concerns about this research, please contact Professor Sue Durbin, Faculty of Business and Law (sue.durbin@uwe.ac.uk)

Your involvement in this project will be completely voluntary. For any questions and if you would like to be involved, please email Dr Vanda Papafilippou (Email: Vanda.Papafilippou@uwe.ac.uk; Telephone: 0117 32 87984) to indicate your availability during January and April 2019, and try to respond to this email within two weeks.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    With best wishes,
    Vanda Papafilippou, PhD
    Lecturer in HRM, UWE Bristol
