How do you rate your broadband service and speed?

This question seemed rather relevant with this year’s Appleton lecture (6th Feb) covering superfast broadband (to be broadcast on IET.tv) and Wiltshire’s £35.6m broadband deal just having been signed. Wiltshire County Council are putting a lot of effort into upgrading our broadband speed through the Wiltshire Online initiative (see our related event: 14th May), but is there actually a problem to solve? Is your area covered by the upgrade plan (rollout map)? Is there enough choice of provider? Can you get the services you require? Were you aware of the Wiltshire Online initiative?

  • Had real problems with the 'phone line in - old aluminuim cable - could only achieve 5Mbits when BT promised 20. Just not good enough for TV on demand and internet.

Promised 50+MBits if I switched to optical fibre (moe £££) but salesmen did not realise that the fibre optics did not come to the house - It stops at the distribution box and the by the old cable into the house.

Now on Virgin with a broadband cable into the house regularly getting over 40MBits,
