I couldn't find an appropriate category for this post, so this one will have to do. How many of our local networks are sending representatives to the UK Community Volunteer Conference (CVC) in July in Manchester? What are you expecting to get from this conference? Do you feel it will address your concerns?
You will benefit a great deal from the conference and an equal amount from networking. You will be able to feedback your LNs views on what the IET should be doing and learn about opportunities of which you were unaware. Go, learn and enjoy!! I used to attend the old Hon. Sec. conference which was this conference's predecessor. Derrick. (Hon Sec. Cov. and War.)
Thanks for the feedback. When asked what delegates wanted from the conference, I requested some thorough training on all the online tools. Looking at the programme, the key element seems to be a "Delegate Challenge" - as if my day job didn't present enough challenges! I'm hoping we get a good representation from a wide variety of local networks like ourselves.
I don't recall seeing an invite either. I've made the LN aware of my volunteer status however the communication seems to be one way. I tend to operate on my own arranging school visits and volunteer opportunities via the local STEMNET contract holder Science Connects.
Just to clarify, back in the beginning of March, CCUK invited all Local Networks to nominate a delegate to attend the conference in July. One place was reserved for each Local Network and it was agreed that the email should be sent to all LN committee volunteers so that everyone was kept informed and had the chance to put themselves forward.
Ken - You will be aware that SLOs are invited to specific SLO Conferences which are organised by the Education 5-19 team but it seems to me that where we can help is in forging better links with your local Network - if you'd like to email me direct I can put you in touch with the Community Relationship Manager for the area, who should be able to help.
We have volunteers from most Local Networks attending the conference.
