Contracting in Germany with a British limited company

A British engineer that is wondering about fixed-duration projects in Germany has a couple of questions:

  • If one were to take a contract that was based in Germany, would it be practical, sensible or even legally plausible to do this through a limited company that was registered in the UK?

  • What practicalities would or should a British registered limited company need to consider before it started to service consultancy contracts in Germany?

(This assumes that the necessary insurance policies for professional indemnity, public liability, etc could be put in place.)

I would be grateful to benefit from advice offered by anybody that already has experience of doing this.

Any such advice would help to streamline and focus preparations.

I will be researching the matter myself.

Thank you.
  • Following on from my original enquiry above:

    • Does anybody have experience of setting up and registering as a freelance engineer/engineering company that is based in Germany, rather than using an existing British registered company?

What little information I have found about this matter makes it seem confusing.

Hence, I would be grateful for any practical advice on the matter from those that have done this before.
