Applying management theories in the workplace

As a professional skills trainer for the IET, I’m interested to know more about how beneficial engineers and technicians find management theories and how useful they are when put into practice.

Have you ever come across or been introduced to a Management or Leadership theory that you have successfully applied to the workplace?

What was the theory and how was it applied?

Thank you for your replies so far.

It’s good to see this topic has generated healthy discussions and looking forward to reading wider contributions.

I personally like Pareto’s theory on 80/20, however as you have suggested it’s not an exact science. We can apply the principles of this theory to our work, enabling us in being more productive. The challenge is to get the right 20%.

If you would like to find out more around this theory, there are many explanations on the internet, I have attached a web link from mind tools as an example
