Introducing Dim Sum Labs

Just a quick introduction on a local Hong Kong club / organisation called Dim Sum Labs. These guys are basically a 'hackerspace' group if you have heard of this type of club before. There are hackerspaces of various shapes and sizes globally. I wrote to a a local IET committee member about Dim Sum Labs some time ago but not sure if was taken any further so just thought I would introduce them to IET members here.

The boys and girls at Dim Sum Labs essentially are a group of people who like to make things. The members and visitors are made up of people from different backgrounds - not just engineers and scientists. This mix of people with backgrounds / expertise in engineering, science, art, humanities, and many other areas make it a very interesting environment.

They are equiped with various tools and 'toys' to help people make things. From CNC machines, 3D printers, lathes, to basic soldering irons. There are a lot of guys making use of Arduino type boards for those of you are familiar with Arduino.

The guys and girls at Dim Sum Labs are a very friendly bunch so they are always happy for people to drop by. They tend to have casual meetings every Tuesday night. If you intend to visit them it might be a good idea to drop them an email to check there will be somebody there or that isn't a workshop going on.

Their website is... http://dimsumlabs.com

I am not directly affiliated to Dim Sum Labs and not even a paying member but these guys were a breath of fresh air when I found them. Great to see people tinkering with technology and trying new ideas. We need more of this in HK.
