    Jonathan Aylen from the Newcomen Society presents a lively paper using the history of technology to look at the organisation of R&D. Starting with the “rocket science” behind the Bristol Bloodhound Mark 2 guided missile, he shows how the guidance system was developed, prompting a major switch from analogue to digital control, and looks at how this technology was successfully transferred from a military application into civil industry.
