Is Swindon up for the challenge?

The Government has just announced a £10 million prize to fund a town or city to become a testing ground for autonomous vehicles. Swindon would appear ideally suited with the presence of both Honda and BMW (and of course the magic roundabout!), or are driverless cars just a pipedream?
  • Hi Walter

Companies like Daimler and Nissan are  currently developing their own versions of driverless cars so it definitely looks like this will be a reality.  Both companies are looking towards the end of the decade for their versions to be available, although Google and Tesla are planning to launch their cars around 2016/17.  With over a million people killed in car accidents by humans each year, we should give technology the opportunity to do its best to reduce this number.
