Hello all, I hope you're well!

I work in the Communities department as a Communications Exec and I'm basically here to help mantain and hopefully improve on Communications between internal staff and Communities volunteers.

The team was recently discussing our contributions to Member News and, more specifically, how well our international networks/volunteers are represented. I think we all agreed that there is much room for improvement!

We will of course continue to use this channel as a way to represent all of our networks, but at the moment we are particularly wanting to hear some good news stories from our volunteers outside of the UK, simply because this is where we've been lacking.

So, if there's anything you would like to share (relating to your network activity) that you feel has been particularly successful, please let me know either by adding to this discussion or emailing me: athiele@theiet.org

Thank you!

    Hi Aaron

Hope you and the rest of the Communities Dept are doing well.

All is well in Mauritius. We are busy planning PATW and a Crisis Management workshop at the moment.

Hopefully I will be able to share the good news once they are done.

  • My second #IET Council meeting - a very personal view. See it here http://youtu.be/PfOqb2swAOs
  • Sharing good news on behalf of Derrick Willer, Hon Sec, Coventry and Warwickshire LN

On 11th. March Nick Winser, a member of the Trustee Board and a Director of National Grid, visited Coventry for a full day.

The day was chaired by Mrs. Jaspreet Kaur Mann, the chair of the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Network and was organised by Derrick Willer, Honorary Secretary and Schools Liaison officer.

Nick had discussions with academics, industrialists, undergraduates, post graduates, school education representatives and the Local Network committee. In parallel, the Local Network ran a school pupils' challenge and Nick presented the prizes to the winning team.

The discussions focused on IET Strategy and how the IET could better serve universities, colleges, schools, industry, students, and Members.

Some of the key points raised were:

    - organising both National and local opportunities for meetings between academics and industrialists,

    - pressing government to augment support for science, engineering, schools, etc.,

    - organising the sharing of best practice across the Midlands and the UK.

Nick will be feeding back a long list of potential opportunities to the Trustees.

The Coventry and Warwickshire Network are most grateful to Nick for giving up a whole day.

We are also most grateful to Coventry University who provided the venue and to Andrew Tickle, our Vice Chair, who organised the venue and Student Member support.

    Derrick Willer

    Honorary Secretary
