All quiet on the Railway front....

Hello Everyone,

This is my first post within the community (new member) and I thought I would get the ball rolling with something that has been bugging me for a little while now.

I have recently (last summer) graduated and started a graduate role as an Electrical Engineer at Transport for London, chiefly within London Underground. The nature of the graduate scheme allows for interaction with professional institutions as well communication with other disciplines.

One thing that seems to have been apparent since day 1 is the presence of railways within the IMechE. They offer a large amount of regular talks and appear to have a well established group for communication, events etc. They also appear to me to be much better at marketing all of their events. I was wondering why the IET seems to fall behind in this area? Or is it a case that I am missing something?
  • Hi Martin

Apologies for the delay in responding.

As the Community Relationship Manager for the Railway Network and I'd like to reassure you that our Railway events are promoted to the Railway profession widely via various online newsletters from the TPN, Transport Sector and our Events Services team.  Plus all the Railway events are available to view in the IET's online calendar, which are pulled through to the Railway My Community area via this link: https://communities.theiet.org/communities/home/66

The Network also participates in the Railway Engineers Forum and we have a joint calendar of events that is cross promoted across the constitutent institutions of the REF.

We are always open to new ideas for promoting activities, so if you have got any further thoughts, please drop me a contact request via My Community and we can explore these in more detail.

    Regards

    Deborah McKenzie
