Volunteers Needed - Big Bang Fair at School

Hello,

I have received the following request form Langley Park School for Girls, in Kent.

Big Bang at School: 17th June.  The event will have an engineering theme and will involve 480 of our year 8&9 students, as well as some local primary schools.  I am looking for hands-on activities or workshops with the 'wow' factor to inspire our girls and allow them to gain experiences that they wouldn't usually get in school.  The workshops we have booked in already are things like bridge building, building model turbines etc and some ambassadors are planning on running one of the tomorrow's engineers workshops http://www.tomorrowsengineers.org.uk/Careers-resources-and-activities/Activities/.  We also have companies such as EDT and the Smallpeice trust running STEM challenge events.  The group sizes will be 30 students at a time and volunteers will need to run two x 1 hr 40 min sessions - one before break and one after.

For the assembly, it would be good to have something with a careers slant as an introduction to the day and ideally delivered by a female to inspire our girls to pursue engineering as a career.  The assembly will be to 240 year 8 students and will last 20 mins.

If you are interested in getting involved, please e-mail me at womensnetwork@theiet.org with a brief bio.  I will then send your details to the organisers who will be in contact with you.  NB: They are looking for as many volunteers as possible.

Thanks,

Jo
