Help Needed - Old Laptop Donations

Hello,

Some of you may be aware that I run a coding club one Saturday per month, here at our Stevenage offices.  A parent of one of the families that attends, has been made redundant and is struggling to purchase laptops for her three children to use at home.

Whilst the IET provides loan laptops for some of the children to use on the day of the code club, we cannot allow them to be taken home on a permanent basis.

If you or anybody that you know has an old laptop that they are no longer using or were planning to discard, please could I ask that you / they consider donating it to this family? They are only looking for something basic, that can connect to the internet so that the children can practice at home in addition to the clubs.

Please e-mail me at womensnetwork@theiet.org if you are able to assist.

Thank you

Jo

    A quick update...

I would like to thank everybody that has been in contact with me regarding the donation of laptops.  I have two potential confirmations of used laptops being donated to the family - These are incredibly generous offers and will be well-received by the family.

In addition to this, I was completly surprised when I received an e-mail from a member, (who shall remain annonymous), offereing to purchase a laptop for the family in question. When I asked her why she offered to donate so generously, she said ''When I saw your request for help I simply thought this is a situation I can help with.''  and kindly explained that she was a STEM ambassador and did a lot of work through the IET, to promote STEM in schools. She has also served as an IET volunteer for a number of years and understands the importance of encouraging and supporting the next generation.  Now that she is in a stronger position to be able to help others, she does so on a regular basis including helping children in under-developed countries.

She really is quite remarkable and I wanted to highlight her efforts and the efforts of others with you.

Thank you once again to everybody that has been in contact.

    Kind regards,

    Jo
