I have received the following request - Please let me know if you are able to get involved!
I am excited to announce that this year the Women into Engineering event is taking place from Monday, 4 July to Thursday, 7 July 2016 held at The JCB Academy in Rocester, Staffordshire. The event is now in its sixth year and growing in size and popularity every time!
The support and help of our partners is integral to the success of this event so we’re calling for female engineers from your organisation to help promote engineering to young girls from primary schools from all across Staffordshire and Derbyshire. We’ve invited over 120 primary schools to nominate up to three girls from year 6 (aged 9-10) and also asked them to bring along a female parent/carer too!
The role of the guest female engineer would be to meet and greet the young girls and their mothers, help with the various tasks that we will set the girls and talk about their own routes into engineering – giving the girls and their mums some inspiration! I can provide more details to anyone you nominate to help.
Each day has a morning and an afternoon session to which different schools and groups of students will be invited. The helpers from your organisation will need to arrive at The JCB Academy for:
Morning session : 08:30-12:30
Afternoon session : 12:30-16:30
It would be great if you could nominate a couple of female engineers from your organisation to help at this event. You may want to select a day (or more) which suits best. I look forward to hearing from you in the near future; if you need any more details please feel free to contact me.
At present 38 schools are sending students to the event.
Please e-mail me a brief bio at womensnetwork@theiet.org if you would like to get involved! :)
Thank you,
Jo
