Introductions

Hi everybody,

My name is Fiona Dew, I work at the IET and I have been helping Dan Faircloth out with this group either side of being out for a year on maternity leave.

My main job at the IET is to manage a team of Community Managers and also to lead on the development of the IET's online community offering.

It's nice to e-meet you.

    Hi Everyone,

Thank you Fiona for setting up this Community and thanks to Bob for posting the video's from last year's networking event.

I'm Dan Faircloth, I work on the ISIS accelerator at the STFC's Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.

Particle Accelerator Engineering is a cross disciplinary endeavour, it includes, Computing, Control, Design, Education, Electrical, Electronic, High Voltage, Laser, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Modelling, Operation, Plant, Plasma, Power, Procurement, Project Management, Protection, Radiation, Research, RF, Safety, Sales, Software, Support, Thermal and Vacuum Engineering.

A couple of years ago when the IET was sharing the IMechE headquarters at Birdcage Walk we ran our first networking event to bring together UK based engineers, technicians, and physicists from the National Labs, Industry and Universities.

The network has representation at the IET, IoP, and IMechE and is open to all. You do not need to be a member of any specific institution. The IET has kindly provided us with this home to bring the network together in one place online.

We will use this forum to advertise future networking events and to host videos and presentations from the events.  We also want to foster discussion and debate about accelerator engineering in the UK, so please go ahead introduce yourselves and do let us know if you would like to get involved.

Our next networking meeting is at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory on the 21st of October 2016. The meeting is free to attend.

    See you soon.

    All the best,

    Dan
