  • Hi all.

Firstly I would like to thank the Vice Chair for highlighting this group to me.

So I am Aaron Russell as you will see from the name above.

I am currently a Technical Officer Telecommunications, Late Entry Officer, in the British Army. My linkedin profile is probably the best way to get a view of my career to date as it has been quite varied.

From an academic standpoint I have a BEng (Hons) with my dissertation covering communication in a congested and contested environment, considering the utilisation of Cognitive Radio.

I have just graduated with MSc in Information Capabilty Management, with a thesis surrounding Behaviours, Beliefs and Cultures - discussing Just Culture, Reporting Culture and the wider organisational cultures within defence.

Why IoT? For defence it may still be considerd an emerging technology as it isn't fully embraced at the bleeding edge. My position allows me to have some stakeholder impact and try and drive this. I have worked with Canadian partners in how IoT and 5G in the battlegroup allows for a multi sensory security wrap and C4ISR domain - i believe being in here will have mutual (but more for my development) benefits.

Out of my role, I am the Corps' lead STEM ambassador for its Centenary, unfortunately an event at BT Tower was postponed due to the unfortunate circumstances we find ourselves in. I hope to deliver this early next year. I am also awaiting my interview for CEng, and support my team as a PRA and endorser in their drive for Eng Tech and ICT Tech, woth the hope of expanding this to IEng and CEng once my own journey is confirmed.

Out of engineering I spend tspendith my family, cry at West Brom and constantly have lessons identified in my DIY projects.
