The IET's Young Professionals are running a series of member stories to highlight the wonderful diversity in engineering, these will address many of the protected characteristics of diversity. We have stories that will be published throughout this year to cover physical and hidden conditions, LGBTQ, cultural awareness and more. The idea is to hear from our members’ perspectives on how, if at all, their ‘characteristic’ has affected their recruitment experience, their role, their colleagues’ perception of them and to provide some useful insights into their experiences.

Our first article was on physical conditions and can be found here to give you an idea of what they’re like. We are currently on the look-out for people to feature in our LGBT article, specifically for lesbian or bisexual participants. If you’d like to be involved, we’d love to hear from you!

We have a professional journalist who’ll conduct an open and honest interview with you, she’ll write it up and send it to you to check and amend as you see fit so you’d be completely happy with it before it was published. Ideally, we’d love a picture of you to accompany the article but if you’d rather do it anonymously, that’s fine too.

Please register your interest by emailing youngprofessionals@theiet.org with the title ‘Diversity in Engineering’. Please be aware that it will be on a first come first served basis.
