I listened to a really interesting podcast recently about Elizabeth Holmes, the Founder and CEO of Theranos, the tech company that promised to revolutionise blood testing technology. One of a few female CEOs of tech companies, she was named by Forbes in 2015 as the youngest and wealthiest self-made female billionaire in America on the basis of a $9 billion valuation of Theranos. By 2016, following revelations of potential fraud, Forbes revised her net worth to zero dollars.
There have been various stories about her and her company in the press (including in E&T magazine), however, this podcast examines reports from various sources and discusses how she managed to secure investment from some very wealthy and well connected people (including former US President Bill Clinton) despite not having a product that actually worked.
