"More Hydrogen - not Carbon": To help combat climate change, the UK has committed to reduce its emissions of greenhouse gases to net zero by 2050. There will need to be a complete transformation of how energy is used and stored, including decarbonisation of transport, heating, electrical supply, and industry, with carbon emissions restricted to difficult applications such as air transport.
Speakers:
Dr Graham Cooley joined ITM Power as CEO in 2009. ITM Power was the first hydrogen related company to be listed on the London Stock Market and has been developing electrolyser equipment for over 20 years.
David Parkin is a Director of Progressive Energy Limited and the Project Director for HyNet North West.
This lecture covers the use of hydrogen to replace natural gas including production of “green” hydrogen by electrolysis and “blue” hydrogen by Steam Methane Reformer (SMR) with Carbon Capture and Storage. Uses of hydrogen include transport vehicles, heat, ammonia refineries and industrial clusters such as in the HyNet NW project near the Mersey.
See attached flier for details and how to book via Eventbrite by Tue 18 May for the Wed 19 May event.
Note that the Engineers Livery Company has another event on Tue 19 October, "Financing SMRs" - these SMRs are Small Nuclear Reactors of which more will be heard in the coming months.
