Engineering Work Experience Request For 17 Year Daughter Studying BTEC

Hi All,


Hopefully you can help me?

My daughter is in her first year of an engineering BTEC and during the summer 2020 she would like to experience engineering in the work place, we've looked on various sites with no luck so far within the Swindon area.

Can any of you make any suggestions, either websites to look at, companies to contact or even better offers within your own workplace?

At this stage I really don't want to have to take her to work with me, as I would rather she goes off and has this experience independently.

    Hi Gareth,

    have you tried looking at Schneider Electric? We have a facility in Swindon and the company also runs graduate and apprenticeship schemes

    What discipline is she hoping to follow? Our company, though "electric" covers a multitude of disciplines. 

    ​​​​​​For my sins, I get to play in data centres, covering power, cooling, design, auditing and testing - it's great fun!

    Many thanks for the response. Currently she's not decided which discipline she wants to follow, so is open to all ideas.  Can you suggest a contact within Schneider Electric that I could approach?

    Hi Gareth,

    you can send me an email - ian.corrigan@se.com - with a short description of her course (and some ideas of where she sees herself in a few years technically) and I can have a chat with our HRBP team. You may be surprised at just exactly where she could  go in a company like Schneider.

    I live relatively close to Swindon (between Lechlade and Burford) and I will be happy to meet up and have a chat.
