BAME Volunteers Required

Do you work in Energy and identify as ‘BAME’?
I am developing a STEM activity for schools to increase awareness and spark curiosity about climate change, the environment and energy amongst students.   The activity will highlight the roles that BAME engineers and scientists play in the journey to Net Zero in a fun and interactive way.
The intention is also to boost awareness of the educational backgrounds and routes to the roles of BAME engineers and scientists and provide inspiration of future careers.
I am looking for volunteers who want to motivate young people to further consider the energy field.  If you would be interested in being involved or would like more information please contact me!

  • Thank you Erusa for your post and for your call for volunteers to help provide inspirational role models from a diverse background.  We are aware of how important it is for younger people to see people like them (be it physically or from a similar social or economic background for instance) when making career aspirations. We believe that this post was not intended to exclude any volunteers from educational motivational activities, but recognising the need to have particular role models.

The IET’s Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy was introduced in 2019, part of this strategy is advocating EDI in Engineering as a crucial element in addressing the skills shortage that currently threatens the UK industry.  Working with young people of all backgrounds to excite them about a future career in STEM is a key part to getting them into our industry and providing role models of all backgrounds will be part of this process.  The IET has many similar activities across our Education Officer volunteer provision which we are always grateful for keen and motivational volunteers, for anyone who is interested in further information please visit our Education website if you would like to get involved.
