Intelligent Video Surveillance Systems in Multimedia Technology and its Applications
Intelligent video surveillance is designed to provide efficient video analysis in matters of security and forensic investigations. Existing systems offer ample functionality, however, they do not exhaust all capabilities of modern software. Given current crime rates and extremist activities, public security has become an important worldwide issue and it is necessary to ensure video surveillance standards and sustainability are set to the highest quality, with the highest resolution cameras. It is oftentimes tiresome for human operators to monitor surveillance cameras and analyse video surveillance data. It is also difficult to analyse crowd behaviour in mass gatherings, such as in airports and train stations, due to partial or full object occlusion. Video surveillance related issues may include those associated with pedestrian tracking, behaviour understanding, anomaly detection, and unattended baggage detection, and with a rapidly increasing demand in public safety, video surveillance has become a key area for research. The aim of this special issue of IET Image Processing is to cover new developments in video surveillance, including methods to overcome object occlusion and methods to improve video analysis of objects in motion. The integration of various object tracking algorithms for better understanding and information extraction should also be a consideration. We encourage submissions that provide insights and advancements in the field of intelligent video surveillance and those that describe methods useful in overcoming obstacles in real-world scenarios such as how to handle object occlusion and external weather-related issues that arise in outdoor surveillance. Specifically, papers should address significant new contributions in the field, and authors must explicitly specify these scientific advances.
With Guest Editors Joel J. P. C. Rodrigues, V. D. Ambeth Kumar, Pao-Ann Hsiung, Rashid Ali and Abhishek Kumar, submissions must be made through ScholarOne by 28 October 2021. More information on this special issue and submitting an article can be found here.
