Professional Registration in WA

Good evening all. Does anyone have any information the WA professional registration changes being implemented.

See email below for information:

Dear Mr McGinlay,

Recently, we have been working with our members and volunteers in Australia to address the requirements for Professional Registration.

Several states including Victoria, Western Australia and New South Wales are in the process of implementing new requirements for Professional Registration.

We have been supporting consultation responses from the Engineering Council UK and from Local Networks (LNs).

We and the Engineering Council UK have reiterated our support for engineers and technicians to become Professionally Registered, especially where this relates to public safety.

We are particularly keen to promote and ensure the mutual recognition of engineers whose competence has been assessed by others included in the International Engineering Alliance and International Professional Engineering Alliance communities, and this includes those assessed under the requirements of the Engineering Council UK.

Our reputation for a robust assessment process remains and we reiterate our belief that it is the demonstration of competence to carry out engineering, especially in a regulated profession, that should be the determinant of Professional Registration and this should not be based on qualifications or experience alone.

We continue to support responses to consultations from both the Engineering Council UK and LNs in Australia and will review our position on the possibility of becoming an assessing body in the relevant states, subject to being able to meet the requirements for assessment.

We urge Local Network representatives to seek the views of their employers and employer groups on the requirements and processes for Professional Registration and contribute to their Local Network consultation responses wherever possible.

  • David  The Dept of Mines, Industry and Resources are currently preparing a document to be sent to the Minister. There has been change to the original schedule of registered professions and Electrical Engineering is now included in the schedule (due to strong requests from a number of organisations).

    Regards
