I am looking for suppliers of long duration emergency lighting, typically 18-24 hours duration after losss of main power

I am involved in adapting a village hall to a resilience centre for use by the local community.  As one of the issues could be loss of utilities we are looking for long duration (18-24 hours) LED lighting units so that on loss of main power,  even in winter, we can maintain some lighting until daylight without further intervention.  I looked at these a few years ago as part of my work but cannot find suitable lighting suppliers now.  Does anyone Have an awareness of a supplier for this type of lighting?  It would typically be mounted on the wall and connected to fused outlet so that on loss of main power it turns on immediately without intervention, although a separate switch to turn it on would be acceptable.  Normal emergency lighting has typically an endurance of 1-3 hours and is designed to facilitate safe exit from buildings.  We are looking at lighting to allow people to remain in the building for a period of time after loss of main power.    Thank you in anticipation of your help.

  • Do you need full brightness lighting, or just an emergency light with rather more battery than normal ? - The latter could be achieved by having a higher capacity battery pack, either internally or in another box alonside. I' not aware of anyone making that as a standard part but I'm sure that there are plenty of folk that could do that for you.

If you want full power lighting then some sort off UPS is probably a better bet either a small one by each light, or even a whole building maintained supply.

  • You may be better off looking for a solution with 12V lighting, and a central battery bank.  There's not a lot of call for emergency lights with that sort of duration.

  • Can't say I've ever come across such an arrangement.

A central battery system is basically the only way to achieve the duration you're looking for in my opinion as it sounds like it falls into the 'standby lighting' category. They are relatively straightforward and finding a supplier shouldn't be too tricky, but beware the ongoing maintenance and testing requirements. There may also be an impact on the mechanical systems (cooling/ventilation).
