BS 5499 - Fire Exit Sign - Legend Arrow

Hello,

This is a question You get numerous answers so I thought I should ask the community.

What direction should the fire exit sign arrow point on final exits UP or DOWN?

    In general  for signs over doorways etc, an up arrow is straight ahead, as it is with traffic lights, except of course if it is an opening onto downward stairway, when it really does mean "go down" . That said,  to me personally a down arrow would feel  just a logical for straight ahead. However, standards committees do not agree and  it has been an up arrow for years.

    Signs do not have to be logical,  after all, the one thing you do not want folk doing in an emergency is running ...
