Blanking Plugs on ATEX Motor Connection Terminal Box

Dear All,

Can anybody advise if there is a definite written "requirement" or "regulation" to have blanking plugs fitted to and ATEX motor whilst it is in transit please.

Two motors from the same vendor, one with plugs and the other without.

I have seen many motors and JB's etc. in transit, and usually with just plastic disposable bungs in place to protect the threads and to keep light ingress out, but believe that this is just "good practice" rather than a requirement or regulation.

Many thanks for any advice.

Regards,

Barry

  • Hi Barry

seems like a simple question, but I'd like to check the back story which I suspect is a contractual/commercial dispute between supplier and customer?

The photo on the left looks like the threads are nicely rusted and with rust stained water streaks as well.

I assume the situation is something along the lines of... the motor was supplied new and then stored outside for a period. It was assumed to be ok because other motors in the same batch and/or other motors in previous batches were supplied with blanking plugs fitted. When this one was noticed, the customer contacted the supplier who declined responsibility and blamed the customer for storing it incorrectly. Or maybe the supplier hasn't been contacted yet as there is an internal debate as to whether it is their fault or not?

For interest, are the terminal compartments Ex e or Ex d?
