Record Player Turntable Speed. Motor Adjust.

I have an Assai x3r004B'R portable record player. It is a cheap model. It can be handy for quick listening. The speakers  are rubbish but if the output is run through a good amp and speakers the sound if pretty good.

The trouble is that the 33.3 R.P.M. speed is too fast. People sound like the Chipmunks.

The can motor has two adjustment pots marked H and L to adjust the speeds. The L one is set at minimum but the 33.3 speed is still too fast.

If I run the motor through a low value resistor will that cure the problem, or will the motor electronics compensate for that and maintain its fast speed?

Thanks.

Z.

  • Might the cause of the problem be mechanical? - e.g. a wheel/roller the motor is driving has worn down to a smaller diameter so the same amount of distance moved on its circumference now results in more turns?
