Correct Slope Angle For Fluid

I am currently designing machinery for the pharmaceutical industry, within the equipment we need to slope the base of the machine to allow sprayed water to flow into a central drain point. 

typically we design this with a 1.5 Degree angle, is any aware of any standards that coudl help advise me on the correct angle to use?

  • The real answer will depend on the fluid flow rate and the level of ponding/ time to drain that is acceptable, plus an allowance for the machine being used on a not quite level floor.

    If the wash liquid contains gross solids then too high an angle will lead to these being  stranded rather than washed out, so the thing needs manual cleaning- depending on the application, you may or may not want things going down the drain.

    There may be application specific recommendations but without knowing more about what it is, there is no 'ones size fits all' figure.

    For example for walk in showers about 1 in 50 (a quarter inch per foot in old money) but that is more about folk falling over and accepting a very slow drain rate. 

    At the other end for the suds tray on a CNC cutter where the work is drenched, and you do not want the swarf going down the drain you may be looking at ten times that or more.
