LV Distribution Scheme in Nigeria

Can anyone confirm the configuration of the 400/230V distribution scheme in Nigeria i.e. TNS or TN-C-S. We have a Client who wanted to use a 3w distribution but have found that 4w is required.

  • Agree that SWER at 230 volts sounds most improbable. I suspect that they mean "single phase, 2 wire, 230 volts, but obtained from a transformer connected to a SWER system"

To obtain both 230 volts phase to neutral AND 400 volts between phases, 4 wires seem unavoidable, 3 phases and a neutral.

3 phase, 3 wire systems certainly exist at low voltage/utilization voltage but are restricted to only one voltage, that existing between any two phases. They are falling out of use as the addition of a fourth wire allows a considerable increase in the power available.
