Germany scrambles for energy with no faith in Russian gas - BBC News
Z.
Russian gas supplies have resumed this morning, but hardly anyone has any faith in continued reliability.
The position is somewhat similar in the UK. We have the advantage of a much larger percentage of renewable generation than does Germany, I appreciate that some members here are opposed to renewables, but under present circumstances, energy produced within our own territory does seem preferable to that imported from unreliable foreign powers. As is well known, these renewables do not provide a continual supply, but being partly reliant on gas seems better than continually reliant.
On the other hand, the UK is more vulnerable to natural gas shortages than most of the EU because we have very limited gas storage.
I have little faith in our government of any colour, taking any effective actions in the face of any crisis this winter.
We actually obtain very little gas from russia, but that is of little relevance. "The market" for gas is international, and if we are to obtain imports from elsewhere then we have to outbid everyone else.
