National Grid asks UK coal power plants to be on standby this winter (msn.com)

  • So what's new?  Coal fired power stations are usually on standby - because nobody wants to use coal unless we absolutely have to.

    What's new? The fact that they have not all been demolished by the "greens" and that they are still in use and necessary.

  • Does anyone know how many coal burning plants are still available ? And of what total capacity ? I have heard that only 2 GW is available, four units each of 500 MW. Does anyone have more reliable information than this ?
