I want to find a cheaper alternative to HID Omnikey 5021 / 5022 readers. I'd like to know a bit more about these in general. Are there computer keyboards with built-in readers?
Google is probably your friend here. A lot depends on the details of your requirements - e.g. what you need to interface it to and if you need any supporting software. Certainly you can find bare-bones circuit board that read RFID - e.g. https://coolcomponents.co.uk/products/rfid-qwiic-reader-sen-15191 and ones built into keyboards seem to be available too, but only you can tell what would suit you application.
