IET Robotics Hackathon 2023

The IET Robotics Hackathon, held on November 18th, 2023, brought together talented individuals from different institutions to showcase their innovations in robotics.  

Several innovative projects emerged from the hackathon, each addressing real-world challenges and demonstrating the potential of robotics to improve lives.

NanaBot: A Helping Hand for Working Parents 

The NanaBot team presented a robot designed to assist working parents by providing childcare and companionship. This robot can help children with their morning routines, engage them in educational activities and playtime, and offer a caring environment. The NanaBot's features like voice recognition, natural language processing, and a playful personality make it a potential valuable companion for families. 

Peacepal: Supporting Mental Health with Robotics

he Peacepal team focused on addressing the crucial issue of mental health with their robot designed to support individuals struggling with anxiety and depression. This robot leverages advanced AI algorithms to understand and respond to human emotions, providing social interaction, coping mechanisms, and even medication reminders. Peacepal has the potential to offer accessible and personalized mental health support to individuals across the Middle East. 

Buddy Bot: Combating Fires with Technological Prowess 

The Buddy Bot team tackled the important issue of fire safety with their innovative fire-extinguishing robot. This robot can detect fires and automatically deploy extinguishing systems, ensuring quick and efficient fire suppression. Additionally, its navigation capabilities and alarm systems enable assistance in case of emergencies, making it a valuable tool for fire prevention and response. 

SARA: Enhancing Daily Life with a Social Robot Assistant 

The SARA team introduced their interactive social robot designed to assist and enrich daily life. This robot can handle various tasks like safe movement assistance, object manipulation, appliance control, and even medication reminders. Additionally, its ability to engage in social interaction offers companionship and entertainment, making it a potential aid for individuals of all ages.

FTPT: Monitoring Water Quality for a Healthy Future 

The FTPT team addressed the critical issue of water quality with their innovative monitoring system. This system utilizes sensors to measure various water quality parameters and provides real-time data to users through a dedicated application. Ensuring access to safe and healthy water, FTPT can be applied in agriculture, manufacturing, and water treatment plants, among others. 

 

Revolutionizing Traffic Management with AI-Powered Solutions

The team behind the Robotic System for Traffic Management proposed solutions to address traffic congestion challenges. Their system utilizes AI-powered robots and adaptive traffic lights to create a smoother and more efficient traffic flow. This system can eliminate malfunctioning lights, manage intersections effectively, and even provide immediate assistance in case of accidents or emergencies, potentially improving transportation networks in cities across the Middle East.  

ServiBot 

The Servibot team aimed to redefine the campus experience. This customer service robot addressed language barriers, social anxieties, and vast campus layouts, offering intuitive guidance and support to students, faculty, and visitors. 

Technology solutions for a greener future 

Focusing on environmental sustainability, the Social Robot for Sorting Garbage proposed a smart solution to waste management. By recognizing materials and directing them into the correct categories, this robot can significantly improve waste management processes and contribute to a cleaner future 

Empowering Farmers in Oman and Beyond 

Addressing the challenges of farm management in Oman, the AFROBOTS team presented their unmanned aerial robot (drone). This robot assists farmers with surveillance, irrigation, and delivery services, contributing to increased efficiency and resource management. 

Teaching kids with ASD using the NAO robot 

The AUSTIM team aimed to improve the lives of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) using the NAO robot. This humanoid robot offers a unique platform for interactive learning, assisting children in various areas and promoting their development. 

The IET Robotics Hackathon demonstrated the immense potential of robotics to address diverse challenges and improve lives across various sectors. From childcare and education to environmental protection and healthcare, the possibilities are endless. As technology continues to evolve, we can expect even more remarkable.
