Non-IS cable routed through a Zone 0 hazardous area

Is it permissible to run a non-intrinsically safe (non-IS) armoured cable through a Zone 0 hazardous area on a UK offshore oil and gas platform? Please note that the cable is fed from a safe area (in the switchroom) and terminates on a 3-phase 415VAC motor in another safe area. Therefore, the cable is not terminated on any equipment in Zone 0; it merely passes through Zone 0 as a route. I need a reference from a standard or code to determine if this is acceptable.

    I dont know of any area in 60079 where it states what you want. 

    The only mention I know of exactly what you want to see, is in what is known as 'the blue book' , "Design, construction, modification, maintenance and decommissioning of filling stations" which is a standard for filling stations (fuel pumps and the like). Where it states the below,

    That standard does use a mix of 7671 & 60079, so I wouldn't rely on it for your purposes.

    You could make a case for it being allowed, providing the cable is suitable/ resistant to all the hazards present and doesnt have an ability to transfer the zone, that the connections are not in zone so it isn't a cable system for zone 0.

    Alternatively, is there a way for it to not be in zone, through rerouting, or containing that section?

    Thank you so much for your support on this.

    Yes, rerouting is possible but will be very expensive due to its impact on production. The cable is an XLPE/SWA type, and there is no damage to the insulation, so we don’t expect gas from Zone 0 to become trapped and transfer to the termination points in the safe area. However, it is difficult to find a standard or code to support my argument.

    I will try to get hold of the code you referenced and review it.
