A question i often ponder is how to ensure safety in artificial intelligence (AI) / machine learning (ML) program and software training sets? Under the 3MTT Nigeria initiative which I have had the great opportunity to be a part of, I have had a fascinating learning and personal development experience on safety regulations in AI/ML. In an interview with ABC News in March 2023, Sam Altman, then CEO of OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, warned about the AI’s tendency to “hallucinate”. ChatGPT’s willingness to bend reality will begin to cause some legal headaches for OpenAI and other artificial intelligence/machine learning software.
Recently the EU reached a deal on a historic AI law that will govern artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, as well as machine learning, social media and search engines. European commission president Ursula von der Leyen described the Act as a “unique legal framework for the development of AI you can trust”. From ChatGPT to healthcare to oil wells and wind turbines, artificial intelligence and machine learning tools are increasingly driving our environment, so now it is up to the government, customers as well as developers to ensure adherence to its own best practice safety commitments and pledges.
