I have a ATS local to a sprinkler pump. The sprinkler pump is about 50 amps running current and the the locked current about 250amps. Do i base my ATS current rating on the running current or the locked rotor current?

Do not size the ATS solely on the 50A running current, instead, ensure the ATS can handle the LRC load which is you refer to 250A locked rotor current for the sprinkler pump, because this high current, also known as starting current or inrush current. for more info please check BS EN 12845 – Commercial Fire Sprinkler System.
