According to ISO 14224:2016, the tag number identifies the equipment function and it's physical location. If the equipment is replaced with, e.g an overhauled unit, the tag number remains the same.
What if the equipment is moved to a different location to continue operation, does the tag number change? If it does, how do you manage equipment maintenance history? Or would you use a unique identification number, like a serial number, to track equipment history?
